Diabetes, according to the World Health Organization, is an epidemic of the 21st century, which in the next 30 years can affect even one in three of us. Currently, life with this disease is possible, but unfortunately significantly reduces its comfort. Controlling glucose levels requires pricking your fingers every day. A much more convenient GlucoActive solution comes with help.
Few people realize, but until recently diabetes was a deadly disease that completely excluded people from their lives. With the current, rapid development of medicine and the implementation of modern drugs, the life expectancy of people with diabetes has increased significantly, but its comfort is still low. Depending on the severity of the disease and the type of diabetes, patients must tick their fingers up to 20 times a day. The effects of finger pricking for many years are serious — nerve damage, restricted blood flow, or infections. Patients have no choice because the lack of prevention causes life-threatening complications such as blindness, coma, and ketoacidosis or stroke.
The technology developed by the Wrocław-based company allows for painless and non-invasive measurement of blood glucose. The most important and groundbreaking feature of this technology is the study made with the help of laser light. It does not require blood contact or any replaceable sensors or strips, which allows huge savings for both health care systems and patients. The company is currently conducting clinical trials on patients in order to obtain medical certification and permission to introduce devices for sale. The first devices may appear on the market even at the beginning of next year.
GlucoActive has currently started implementing three types of devices:
GlucoStation — a desktop device that anyone can use because it does not require calibration. It is intended mainly for medical facilities, pharmacies, all public spaces, and for home use by diabetics. It will allow anyone who uses a given space to quickly and painlessly measure their blood glucose.
“We believe that this device will solve the problem of the gray area of undiagnosed people, by lifting the psychological barrier against painful measurement. This will allow early detection of a developing disease or even predisposition to diabetes. This is a milestone in diabetology because early diagnosis allows for effective treatment and even prevention of the disease.“ says Robert Stachurski, president of the board at GlucoActive.
GlucoFit and GlucoWear — these are wearable devices in the form of an armband and a watch that allows continuous, 24-hour, and non-invasive measurement of blood glucose. They are targeted at every diabetic, regardless of the type of disease, but also for athletes or people who care about health.
“Our mobile devices, in addition to significantly increase the quality of life of patients, allow you to significantly reduce the cost of monitoring diabetes. They do not require the purchase of any wearing sensors or measuring strips, which for a single patient saves up to PLN 12,000 a year. “ — says Maciej Wysocki, co-founder of the company.
Analyzing the current scale of the problem of diabetes in the world and the avalanche increase in the number of people suffering from civilization diseases, it is easy to notice that this problem may soon affect most of us. GlucoActive medical devices can in the future, protect us from serious illness and significantly increase the comfort of life for people who have diabetes. In addition, the company announced that its technology could be used to non-invasively measure many other blood components, including cholesterol, hemoglobin, or hydration.
The large multinational corporations are already interested in the devices of the Polish company, and they perfectly understand that many people with diabetes are eagerly awaiting the introduction of this technology on the market. GlucoActive is looking for implementation partners, investors, and patients to test new technology.
